Meet Kamal Basra

Kamal is deeply passionate about creating economic equality by providing education and quality professional investment advice. She started her career after graduating from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology. She performed heart disease research at UBC which led to her co-authoring a research paper in a prominent scientific journal. She worked as a supervisor with the Canada Revenue Agency before entering the financial industry.

Kamal successfully became a Certified Financial Planner, a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and fully life insurance licensed. In 2009, she co-founded Sophia Financial Group a full-service advisory firm focussed on providing an inclusive financial planning and investment management platform on Vancouver’s west side.

She is passionate about helping others pursue their life goals and giving back to the community. She creates solid investment and financial planning solutions for women investors and their families to build and maintain a secure financial foundation. This foundation enables women to have the independence and confidence to pursue their ambitions and fulfill their dreams.

When Kamal is not working, she enjoys giving back to her community. She has served on the City of Vancouver Women’s Advisory Committee to bring a gender lens to city budgeting, served as the Public Director on the Board of Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC, and is currently on the Board of a First Nations Development Corporation. Kamal has also  established scholarships for single mothers through the Vancouver YWCA and for First Nations students enrolled in Sciences at SFU.
